What is Air Conditioning?

Air conditioning is the process of maintaining humidity in the air with adequate ventilation while removing foreign particles like dust or bacteria and keeping a constant temperature. At Alpine Temperature Control we like to think of it as keeping you comfortable through the hot summer months.

How an Air Conditioner Works

An air conditioner has one simple job and that is to remove heat from inside your home. Air conditioners do this by pulling air from the house in and exhausting it out the back of the appliance. At the same time it returns cooler air into your home by blowing air over an evaporator coil.

The evaporator coil is a pipe that is cold due to the special liquid refrigerant that is inside it. The refrigerant changes from a liquid to a gas as it absorbs the heat from the air. The refrigerant is then cooled using a condenser unit to cool the gas and turn it back into a liquid. The hot air you feel blowing from your air conditioner is the heat from the refrigerant being expelled during the cooling process.
